BIOGRaphy
Left To The Wolves, birthed in 2010, is a violent reaction to how collusive and imperiling abandonment play out in our global and local social spheres. Combining the atmosphere of black metal, the emotional intensity of metalcore, and the plummeting brutality and speed of both Swedish and slamming death metal, Left To The Wolves is determined to push the boundaries of extreme music and blur the lines between metal subgenres even further.
Gaining extremely positive reviews, the band’s first full length, In The Absence of Humanity, solidified their position as one of the leaders in the Kentucky metal scene. Earning a spot on Metal Nexus’s “Top 25 Albums of 2015”, they continued by saying “The barbaric melodies created along with the sick slick guitar riffs create this energy within their music that keeps you listening.”. Audio Vein Magazine called it an album that “grabs your attention by the throat and doesn’t let go.” Pig Squeals and Breakdowns pinpointed its mass appeal by saying, “In The Absence of Humanity is death filled journey that is sure to satisfy metal enthusiasts of most every genre...”.
While recording with the mastermind behind Whitechapel’s debut album, Miah Lajeunesse at The Sound Lair, Left To The Wolves crafted something unique with In The Absence of Humanity. Drawing from the bowels of Behemoth’s signature blackened death assault, Dying Fetus’s mauling slams, The Black Dahlia Murder’s whipping speed, and The Acacia Strain’s flattening breakdowns, Left To The Wolves continued a long tradition of the artistic sonic expression of bleakness, hatred, and the hollowness of failure.
The album is a homage to the raw aggression and determination that drives both the metal and hardcore punk underground, as it was released with a strong DIY ethic. Doing multiple tours off both their debut EP, War Upon The Modern Age, and their first full length, Left To The Wolves has been successful in creating a strong fanbase of those desiring more from their extreme metal experience. Tracks like “Slave: Mother Earth” demonstrate the straight forward bluntness of the band, with lyrics spewing on topics such as the chaos and confusion of man, and his disconnect from nature. “Skinwalker” drowns the listener in blackened ambience, and entrances them with agonizing highs, followed by crushing lows. Other standouts like “For Those Who Carry Sorrow” and “Bellowing Mountains of Fog and Smoke”, show the band using more experimental tones, and lyrics covering the emotional outcomes of loss and grasping the will to survive. Known for their chaotic live shows and intense reactions from the crowd, the band is sure to spread its message even further in the coming years. Throwing away formulas, the band has already risen above the countless clones that only seek heaviness with no real character.
Melding death metal, black metal, and the soul of early metalcore, Left To The Wolves will continue to create its own ferocious artistic identity. A desire to express and create above all else, the band will not rest until its message of grief has been heard. Left To The Wolves will continue to be a grim and honest representation of what the backwoods of Kentucky and extreme metal have to offer.
